The Peace Fountain
A commission by Stroom events in collaboration with Ernst Dullemond en René Pijnenburg
The Peace Fountain was designed to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Treaty of Breda. The fountain offers a physical experience of conflict and peace. It’s about history, but also makes a connection to the present. Walls of water rise and force people to separate. Eventually all the walls fall away and the visitors reunite.
The text on the flags encircling the fountain are not only a statement, but also pose questions: When are you a friend? When are you an enemy?
